Job Description:
Sawyer Position Overview:
As a Sawyer, you will be using a bandsaw mill and other sawing equipment to convert logs into lumber and various wood products.
Your primary responsibility will be to operate saws, monitor the cutting process, and ensure the efficient and accurate conversion of raw logs into usable lumber.
You will work closely with a team of skilled professionals to meet production goals while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.

Responsibilities:
Sawing Operations:
Operate bandsaw mill and other specialized machinery to cut logs into desired dimensions, according to specifications.
Log Assessment:
Examine logs for defects, such as knots, rot, or other imperfections, and determine the most suitable cutting pattern to maximize lumber yield.
Equipment Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance on sawing equipment, including sharpening and changing blades, ensuring proper lubrication, and troubleshooting minor issues.
Quality Control:
Inspect cut lumber for quality and accuracy, ensuring adherence to industry standards, customer requirements, and company specifications.
Inventory Management:
Maintain accurate records of log species, dimensions, and output volumes to facilitate efficient inventory management.
Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining a clean and organized work area, and following lock-out/tag-out procedures.
Process Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency enhancement, suggesting and implementing improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
Documentation:
Complete production reports, work orders, and other relevant documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
Other Tasks:
Load shavings and wood chips for customers, assist with snow removal, and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or vocational training in woodworking or sawmill operations is a plus.
Proven experience as a sawyer or in a similar role within the lumber industry.
Strong knowledge of sawing equipment Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and cutting patterns.
Proficiency in operating sawing machinery with precision and accuracy.
Solid understanding of safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
Attention to detail and quality orientation to ensure accurate and high-quality lumber production.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address equipment issues or production challenges.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with colleagues and work towards common goals.
Physical stamina and ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy materials and standing for extended periods.
